Best of NeoCon 2015: Trends in Adaptive Office Space, Textiles and Wide Plank Flooring

As expected, NeoCon 2015 featured a seemingly endless amount of inspiration and insight into the latest interior design trends and industry fads. As both an exhibitor and a spectator of this year’s major industry event, the team at Parterre was left with an overabundance of enthusiasm as to what people are talking about and what people want and need to succeed their in their daily workspace.

The over-arching trend from this year’s NeoCon was innovations in adaptive workspace. The team at Parterre walked away with numerous examples of how leaders in the interior design industry are beginning to focus on the notion of “doing more with less.”

The following are all the trends and tidbits of inspirations that caught our eye at NeoCon 2015. Enjoy!

Big Things in Small Spaces

Corporate workspaces are getting smaller and smaller—meaning employers and their employees must start getting creative with the way they utilize their professional real estate. What once may have only been a 6’x6’ cubicle now must be re-imagined into something much more. It’s important to think big when working with a small space.

Smaller workspace design must be intuitive and adaptive, not to mention comfortable. The following are some great examples of innovative uses of workspace on display at NeoCon 2015.

Is this a cubicle divider or an interactive chalkboard? You be the judge. The team from DeskMakers showcased its TeamWorx Desking System as a great alternative to your boring old cubicle dividers.

The team from AIS showed attendees how to maximize workspace by turning a regular old divider wall between two cubicles into whiteboards. Also, you’ll notice the bench seating with decorative pillows add that comfort level not normally expected in a small workspace.

Interactive Corporate Common Space

Similar to finding creative ways to design individual workspace for employees, companies must also be innovative when it comes to common space within the work setting. Whether it’s installing locker/cubbies for employee storage, or simplifying a kitchen set up to ensure more room for seating, a company can find multiple ways of making their common space more efficient. Check out these great examples.

This corporate meeting space designed by izzy offers both a decorative and functional feel to the traditionally boring common space. The whiteboard that serves as a divider from the rest of the workspace suggests the space can be used for work purposes, while the side tables and comfortable seating offers an opportunity to relax and unwind during break time.

Watson brought along this great example of a storage solution for corporate settings. These lockers, situated at the entrance of the work space, give employees an opportunity to store their belongings, while the design of the lockers themselves allows employers to still stick to their professional aesthetic.

The Time for Textiles is NOW

All over NeoCon 2015 it was pretty obvious that textiles (i.e. geometric patterns) are back and better than ever. The trend in textiles could be found in wool and felt fabrics, as well as in carpeting designs. Colors ranged from neutral uses of metallic and black/grays patterns for fabric, and bright, bright fluorescents for carpeting—in addition to subtle hues of grey. Various vendors attempted to nail the lumberjack feel for patterns mixed with organic-like wood and leathers.

Welcome Back Wood Grain

The sleek and stylish wood grain pattern was once again very popular for flooring and furniture at NeoCon 2015. Some vendors successfully showcased how wood grain can work with glass. Wood grain textures in fabric gave off an organic feel when mixed with the right furniture.

Perpendicular Desktops Gaining in Popularity

A lot of the workspace featured through out NeoCon 2015 was of the perpendicular variety—whether it was individual desktops or meeting space. This design allows a company to maximize space by getting away from the normally bulky style of desks and conference tables and instead replaces it with a slimmed down, space saving solution.

Wide Plank Flooring = Winning

This ever-popular trend was very evident at Parterre’s booth—where our representatives unveiled 24 new vinyl plank designs featuring a wider 6” x 36” plank size.
